The Corporation of Hamilton announced a major new parking initiative in partnership with Agility Ltd., a local vendor.

Gary Edwards, Chief Financial Officer said, "The Corporation of Hamilton is pleased to introduce a new concept in parking in the City of Hamilton. The service is called Easy Park. The immediate benefits of the new system are:

It is fast and easy to use;

It eliminates the need for coins when parking in any of the city's car parks.

You pay for the time the vehicle is parked;

You will need to buy one Smart Card that you will top up as needed;

It eliminates the need to purchase parking vouchers, therefore providing a green solution.

"This innovative parking solution is an excellent service we are pleased to provide to businesses and car owners who park within the City of Hamilton. Easy Park will also be used at the L.F. Wade International Airport; and I acknowledge Mr. Aaron Adderley, General Manager, and Mr. Najib Chentouf, Financial Controller, here today representing the Department of Airport Operations.

"I invite Mr. Norris Ebbin, from Agility Ltd. to say a few words."

"Good afternoon, I am pleased to be here today to explain how Easy Park works. Easy Park is an in-vehicle parking meter device about the size of a credit card and 10mm thick. It uses contactless or RFID microprocessor smartcard technology, which means it is intelligent and once you put in your parking location it will do the rest.

"The unit has a battery operated LCD panel which provides a display of all the parking attribute details, including the area and parking zone and how much money remains on the account.

"In order to use the device, parking value (money) must first be loaded. The loading and reloading of parking value is simple. There are a number of retail locations around the island where you can go to top up your Easy Park display unit. Up to $65.00 (revised to $100) can be added at a time. The number of retail locations will continue to increase as we roll out the system.

"Operating the units is easy and convenient.

"Select the parking area (i.e. the City of Hamilton or LFWI Airport) and the parking zone (street or lot parking), which are shown on the back of the unit.

Hang the device in the car window facing the sidewalk.

The unit will automatically begin to charge for parking.

On returning to the car, simply turn off the device and it will cease charging for parking and subtract the charge for parking from the parking value existing on the card.

It's that simple…

"The Easy Park system is designed and manufactured by PARX Ltd, a subsidiary of On Track Innovations Ltd. (OTI). We are pleased to have with us today, to participate in the launch of the first installation of EasyPark in North America, Mr. Sam Manor, the President of OTI America. I invite him to say a few words."

"We are proud to say that the Easy Park system is the largest field tested in-vehicle parking meter implementation of its kind. PARX's strategy is to build a solid network of distributors who can introduce its innovative parking solution. The Easy Park system has been well received in every place we have introduced it and we hope to see the same happen in Bermuda with Agility Ltd. as our representative. Thank you."

Gary Edwards concluded, "The new Easy Park system will be in place starting on September 1, 2009. The parking voucher system and the pay and display system in the car parks will continue to be in place for the foreseeable future.

"The Easy Park system will be an added service for users who would like to try out the new technology. I am confident that once people try it they will continue to use it. I encourage everyone to get the unit and see how simple it is to use."
